HEATER
All of my life I have enjoyed the cold. I remember sticking my bare hands in the snow as a child to the point where they were terribly chapped. While it sure as heck pissed off my mother, it seemed to have no effect on me whatsoever.
I can't remember the last time I actually did up my (winter) jacket because I was cold. The only time my jackets close is if there's a danger of getting wet. I don't even think that I've worn my gloves yet - and winter is almost over!
Well, I've always been a heater. I produce an absurd amount of heat. I have asked my doctor about it many times and they all give me the same answer - Some people just run warm. Great.
Actually, for many reasons it has been great. I love that the Canadian winter doesn't get to me like it does others. For me the problem tends to be the warmer months, because let's be honest, the last thing a heater needs is more heat.
Something strange happened yesterday/today. For the first time in I don't even know how long I felt cold. My feet are cold, my arms are chilly - and I even brought my earmuffs along just in case. It seems this heater is broken. An I blame the gym.
I don't actually *blame* the gym, but I do think that my recent long weekend of exercise has something to do with it. My body, in general, produces a lot of heat. If I don't do anything aside from sitting and eating it's only fair to assume that my body will store up that heat/energy. Sometimes it just means that I'm too warm just sitting around. Other times it means that I'm toasty warm while walking around the city on a cold windy day. But now it seems different.
I think that going to the gym so often got a lot of that stored heat/energy out of my system. I really just worked it out of me. Plus, going to the gym more often means that I am going to lose body fat - which means I will have less insulation! I suppose this bear's dream of hibernating is toast.
It's probably way too early to tell if this is actually what is going on, but it's going to be interesting to see what happens if I keep up with the gym routine. Tonight and tomorrow are my days off. I am planning on hitting up the gym Thursday night, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Think I can do it? Given that the last four days were spent in the gym and I was still craving the gym today, I would have to say yes. I can totally do it.
I was saying to my friend Heather today that going to the gym is completely worthwhile, and kind of addictive. After all, the alternative is often me sitting at home eating. Not exactly the routine I want to have.
Who know, my loss of heat may be a temporary thing. We'll just have to wait and see. Maybe I'll talk about it again next Tuesday night as I reflect on another string of visits to the gym.
Later all... ;)
